In the third class of our Pre-Pointe series, we will focus on developing ankle strength, lower leg endurance, and postural control to improve relevés, small jumps, and overall dynamic stability.

The class also includes core conditioning exercises to enhance balance, coordination, and alignment throughout the entire body. We have found that encouraging dancers to maintain control through their centre during these exercises will help prevent overcompensating in the lower limbs. This connection and awareness is crucial for building a stable foundation for future pointe work.

This session is designed to challenge students’ coordination and dynamic control, helping them understand how to stay grounded while moving fluidly and mindfully through movement sequences.

Tips

Relevés and jumps are an excellent way to observe ankle articulation, calf engagement, and foot strength under load.

Reinforce the connection between core stability and foot placement—particularly when students begin to fatigue.

Use this class to assess how students manage the transition from static to dynamic work.
