Welcome to Move and Groove 8 guided by Coni Belgareto. As this is our final class in the series, we will be building on and solidifying the lessons and principles established in former lessons. In particular, we will be focusing on improving alignment, strengthening turnout and enhancing rhythm and coordination.
To prepare the muscles and mind for dancing, we will perform Warm-up Blitz. This upbeat mini-loop band exercise targets posture, power and alignment,, activating and strengthening the turnout muscles to support the dancer’s technique.
In Turnout Blitz we will use the yellow mini-loop band to activate the piriformis muscle, strengthening the backs of the legs and abdominals to support balances in retiré.
Our final exercise in this class will be Postural Balance. Here dancers will be strengthening the deep rotators, adductors and foot stabilisers for balancing, using the Fusion Ball to bring awareness to the dancer’s weight placement. To activate the core and challenge the obliques, we will perform Slide and Forward Roll. Dancers will focus on creating a ‘C’ shape with their spine, engaging the rectus abdominis and transversus abdominis to control the movement.
Tips
Remind dancers to keep the weight over the balls of their feet.
Check that the dancer’s ankle, knees, hips and shoulders are aligned.
Encourage dancers to turnout with the backs of the legs rather than the hip flexors.
