This exercise will target the core of the students and allow them to focus on breath. The students will also be working on hip mobility which will help with turnout, the resistance band adds an extra challenge by working the upper body.
Starting Position: The student will begin lying down with their feet flat on the floor in a parallel position. They will be holding on to the resistance band which will be placed over the pelvis area.
Steps:
- The students will start by reach their arms back behind them and float both feet up in to a table top position.
- The student will open the right knee, then stretch the leg long, they will turn the leg parallel, then bring it back to table top.
- Repeat this on the other leg.
- The student will then reverse that section of the exercise.
- Have the student bring their band towards their pelvis curling the chest forward and stretching the legs long.
- The students will then comeback to the starting position.
- They will then repeat the whole exercise from the beginning.
- Once the students have lowered the feet to the floor and the arms back behind them, they will take the feet wider than the hips and rock the knees down to each side.
- To finish they will hug the knees in to the chest placing the resistance band over the shins.
