This exercise is designed to enhance the dancers' coordination, strength, and precision, particularly in executing fouetté turns. It combines leg, foot, and arm coordination with turning technique, important for advanced ballet repertoire.
Preparation:
Have students begin in the upstage corner, ready for movement across the floor. Ensure students understand the preparatory position for fouetté turns at the barre firstly as in the tutorial.
Steps:
1. Students begin with a posé temps levé in arabesque, followed by running to the centre.
2. Instruct students to perform an assemblé dessus, leading into a relevé in 5th position.
3. Follow with a chassé passé and demi plié to prepare for the turns.
4. Have students execute 12 fouetté rond de jambe en tournant, focusing on maintaining core stability and precise leg and arm coordination.
5. Incorporate a pirouette en dehors and detourné, leading into chaînés.
6. Have them conclude with a chassé relevé in arabesque, preparing to repeat on their alternate side.
Focus:
Emphasise the importance of a strong core, precise footwork, and coordinated arm movements for stability and fluidity in turns.
