This exercise aims to refine students' technique, focusing on the activation of the supporting leg during the fouetté action. This prevents undue pressure on the supporting knee and ankle, enhancing overall stability and control.

Preparation:

Have students begin with the left foot devant en croix. Emphasise the importance of proper stance and weight distribution to prepare for the fouetté action.

Steps:

1. Instruct students to begin with a dégagé derrière and port de bras demi seconde.

2. Have them use the introduction to transfer weight back through a demi plié into a dégagé devant, coordinating with port de bras into 5th position.

3. Have students perform 4 Grand Fouetté en tournant, focusing on maintaining a strong, activated supporting leg.

4. Incorporate a développé relevé in à la seconde & relevé in 5th position, followed by a glissade derrière with a développé relevé in à la seconde, coordinating port de bras into 4th position.

5. Have students repeat the sequence on the right side, concluding with coupé courru en arrière, port de bras demi seconde, chassé en arrière, and port de bras into 5th position.

Focus:

Stress the importance of alignment in the supporting leg and the engagement of core muscles throughout the sequence.
