This exercise enhances students' awareness of their supporting leg's significance, important for balance and stability in pointe work. By incorporating resistance bands, this exercise encourages the engagement and strength of the supporting leg.

Preparation:

Secure a long resistance band around the supporting leg, from the knee to the thigh, and loop the excess over the barre.

Steps:

1. Have students begin with a breath, raising the arms and drawing the feet sur la pointe to establish a strong starting position.

2. Instruct them to perform a grand rond de jambe en dehors, coordinating with a full port de bras transitioning through 4th, 2nd, and into an arabesque line, focusing on smooth, controlled movements.

3. Close sur la pointe, maintaining the poise and stability gained from the initial rond de jambe.

4. Have students execute a grand rond de jambe en dedans, ensuring the supporting leg remains engaged and strong.

5. Sustain sur la pointe, challenging the dancer's balance and core strength.

6. Conclude by having students lower slowly through the metatarsals, reinforcing the importance of control and precision.

Focus:

Highlight the need for correct alignment and continuous engagement of the supporting leg throughout the exercise.
