This is a lovely exercise to help the students build strength through the supporting side while also working in to the hip mobility.
Starting Position: Have the students place the fusion ball under the working foot and lie on the back with palms facing up. Optionally turn the palms down for more balance.
Steps:
- In the introduction, lift the hips into a bridge.
- They will open the working knee to the side and extend the leg.
- Have the student rotate to parallel and return to the starting position.
- Repeat this sequence 4 times.
- Repeat the same sequence in reverse, 4 times.
- They will then ripple down through the spine.
- Have the student grab the ball and extend the working leg in turnout, reaching the arms to the ceiling holding the ball.
- They will then lower the leg and arms together, elongating towards the floor.
- Have the student return, bringing the leg back as in a grand battement.
- Repeat 4 times.
- They will then lower down, and repeat the full sequence on the other side.
- The student will then lift the hips into a bridge and place the ball under the tailbone.
- They will then extend both legs and lower the arms to the mat, palms facing up.
- The student will then bring the working knee to the chest and hug it.
- Return and repeat on the other side.
- Have the student bring the right knee to the chest, rotate the leg outward and lower.
- Repeat on the other side.
- They will then bring the feet in, remove the ball, lower the pelvis and relax to finish.
