This exercise will help the students build strength and improve your turnout, by working in to the glutes and deep rotator muscles.
Starting Position: Have the student place the mini loop above the knees. Lie on one side with legs extended in parallel. Support the upper body with the top hand on the mat.
Steps:
- The student will start by lifting both legs. Lower.
- Repeat 6 times.
- Then after the sixth, keep the legs lifted. Bring the top leg into a parallel passé.
- They will then externally rotate both legs. Return to parallel.
- Repeat 4 times
- Have the student remain in turnout with the top leg in passé. Extend it outward in line with the knee.
- They will then bring both feet together in turnout, forming a diamond shape.
- The student will extend the legs outward.
- Have the student knock the knees together, internally rotating both legs and separating the feet. Extend the legs out again.
- Repeat the diamond, external rotation, and extension sequence four times. in total
- The student will bring the top leg into turned-out passé, then to parallel. Extend both legs and lower.
- Then, repeat on the other side.
