This exercise is for building strength and flexibility within the hip to achieve a clean arabesque line.
Starting Position:Begging by wrapping the right foot, holding the band in the same hand as leg is wrapped. Lie down onto your front with legs parallel and left arm stretched forward.
Steps:
1 - Have the student bend the right knee, gently pulling the band towards the right shoulder.
2 - The student will then extend up into the attitude position, taking hold of the band in both hands.
3 - The student will extend all the way into arabesque, gently pulling the band towards the right shoulder.
4 - Have the student fold the leg all the way back down to the starting position.
5 - Repeat exercise once more.
6 - To finish, let the student release the band and push back into child’s pose.
Focus:
The main focus is to make sure the student is not sinking into the lower spine and is activating the abdominals in order to achieve this.
