This exercise will improve the students adage control while using the long PBT Band as resistance. You want the students to be focusing on the supporting leg and creating space in the lower part of the spine.
Starting Position: Have the students wrap the band on top of the right ankle and loop it around the right foot. Hold the band with the right hand, stand side to the barre with the right leg in tendu derrière.
Steps:
- They will begin by placing the right hand above the shoulder on the barre, open the elbow, and do a cambré back.
- Have the students lift the right leg into arabesque, pulling the band.
- They will then move into a penché.
- The students will then return to arabesque and lower to tendu.
- Repeat once more.
- The students will bring the leg to coupé, pivot to face the barre, and switch the band to the left hand.
- They will then bring the right leg through retiré, extend to 2nd position, then lower.
- Repeat 2 times.
- The students will then move from coupé, pivot to croisé.
- They will then lift the leg into arabesque croisé, then lower to coupé.
- Repeat 2 times.
- Have the student release the band and stretch the back forward to relax.
- Repeat the full exercise with the other leg.
