This is a lovely exercise for the students to create movement and space through the spine as well as stretching the hamstrings and working on the supporting leg stability.
Starting Position: Have the students stand at the back of the mat with the legs wider than the hips. Pick up the ball and bring it overhead.
Steps:
- Have the students reach forward with the ball, lengthening the torso.
- They will then roll it back in, curving through the spine.
- They will then roll it out again, extending through the back, Repeat the sequence once more.
- On the third repetition, reach forward, roll it back in, and bend the knees to place one foot flat on the ball, with the supporting leg slightly turned out.
- Have the students bend the supporting leg and extend the working leg, folding the body over it.
- Repeat 3 times, then switch legs.
- They will roll the ball forward into a downward dog position to finish.
