This is a great exercise to get the students building strength through the whole side of the body while also targeting the legs and spinal rotation.
Starting Position: Have the students lie on the side and place the fusion ball under the ribcage. Support the upper body on the elbow, with the bottom leg bent and the top leg extended in parallel.
Steps:
- They will perform six leg lifts.
- Then on the sixth repetition, flex the foot and bring the leg forward into devant, twisting the spine and opening the chest.
- Have them sweep the leg back into an arabesque line, lifting the arm to fifth and turning the gaze to the floor.
- Repeat 4 times.
- They will hold the arabesque line and perform 6 toe taps.
- Have them move into seated fourth position, with the working leg behind.
- They will then take the ball with the hand on the same side as the front leg and open the arms to demi-second.
- The students will side bend away from the front leg.
- They will return and roll the ball away to side bend in the opposite direction.
- Repeat 2 times.
- Have the students sit with the knees bent in front and feet flat on the floor. Curve the spine as the ball comes to the knees and release the head.
- Repeat the full sequence on the opposite side.
