Pelota de esferodinamia / Fitt Ball

This exercise helps students to increase the intensity of balance and coordination, specifically through varied port de bras, in preparation for the dynamic demands of ballet. This exercise supports proper turnout and alignment as the dancer navigates through a shifting of equilibrium when changing directions. It focuses on the integration of upper-body movements with lower-body stability, challenging the dancer to maintain pelvic alignment amidst complex port de bras sequences.

Preparation:

Position the dancer in effacé devant with their heel on the centre of the fit ball, adjusting for hyperextension by moving the heel further over the ball. This initial positioning sets the foundation for balance and alignment.

Steps:

1. Lead the students through a series of fondus (plié) while drawing the working leg into attitude devant, incorporating upper body movement towards the fit ball.

2. Have the students extend the leg back as the body elongates and performs a cambré with port de bras in fourth position. This sequence should be executed three times, ensuring the pelvis remains aligned.

3. Follow with a pivot (promenade) into an écarté alignment, repeating the fondu and upper body tilt with arm changes.

4. Have students pivot into derrière alignment, a fondu with upper body movement, and a rise (elevé) lifting the working leg from the ball. They walk around and reset on the alternate side.

Focus:

Have students maintain a stable pelvis and aligned posture throughout the varied movements, particularly during the transitions and port de bras.
