This exercise is aimed at enhancing student's awareness of their pelvic alignment during key ballet movements. It is integral for refining technique and preventing injuries, particularly in grand battements and allegro.
Preparation: Students lie supine on the mat with their legs crossed at the calves over the fit ball.
Steps:
1. Encourage students to activate their deep gluteal muscles as they bridge into 5th position. They can place their hands under their sacrum to assist pelvic stability.
2. Instruct them to perform 6 grand battements devant, focusing on maintaining their pelvic alignment.
3. For the transition, lead them in un-bridging their bodies back to the mat and adjusting to first position for a demi plié moving the feet closer to their body.
4. Continue with another bridge and 6 sautés in first position. Encourage them to activate their external rotators and caution against dropping heels into a sickle line.
5. Repeat the exercise from the beginning with the left leg on top.
Focus: Emphasise the importance of pelvic stability and correct leg alignment throughout the exercise.
