This exercise develops fluidity and precision in fondu (plié) movements, combined with elegant port de bras. It focuses on weight placement, knee tracking, and overall posture. The result is graceful motion without any neck, shoulder, or finger tension.
Preparation: Position the student en croisé devant with the left foot lightly resting on the fusion ball.
Steps:
1. Start with a port de bras to demi seconde. The head should follow the arms.
2. Have students execute fondu (plié) and recover while sweeping the port de bras into first position.
3. Continue with fondu (plié) movements, alternating the port de bras between demi seconde and fourth position.
4. Ensure elongation of the spine during small circular port de bras.
5. Next, students transition into an arabesque position. Focus on weight transfer over the fusion ball and proper arm positioning in arabesque epaulement.
6. Repeat on the opposite side.
Focus: Emphasise the importance of correct foot contour on the ball and knee alignment during fondus.
