This exercise, designed for young ballet students, helps them develop essential, foundational ballet turnout techniques. Students will aim to achieve equal turnout using PBT bands, reinforcing proper foot alignment with PBT socks, and preventing pronation. This helps prevent common foot and knee problems throughout their dancing life.
Preparation: Equip students with 3m (10ft) long PBT bands and socks. Wrap the band around both thighs, ensuring it's placed evenly and wrapped en dehors twice.
Steps:
1. Have students face the ballet barre in 1st position, hands resting on the barre.
2. Remind students to focus on correct foot placement and maintaining a long spine.
3. Guide them through the following series of movements: demi plié, dégagé in devant, à la seconde, and derrière. Students return to a neutral position in between each movement.
4. Next, students rise in a demi plié onto demi pointe and stretch their legs before returning back down.
5. Include rond de jambe en dehors and en dedans, battement fondu in various positions.
6. Finish with a rise and stretch in 3rd or 5th position.
Focus: Ensure students maintain proper alignment, particularly in the spine and feet.
