This exercise aims to improve both strength and flexibility making it a great way to conclude a PBT class. It is important to ensure that students have good back strength and flexibility before attempting this exercise.
Important note: If a child has been diagnosed with scoliosis it is recommended to choose alternative warm down exercises instead of performing this particular one.
Preparation: Ask the students to lie down on the mat with the legs extended while holding the fusion ball above their head.
Steps:
1. Instruct the students to engage their abdominal muscles as they bring their legs into a tabletop position.
2. Guide them in controlling their legs into an extension and keep moving the legs over their head. They slowly roll back through their spine adjusting their legs through tabletop until they touch the floor and stretch along the mat.
3. Repeat this movement smoothly a total of three times.
4. On the last repetition ask the student to carefully pick up the fusion ball with their feet and return it to the mat and bring their arms down by their sides.
Focus: Pay attention to the student's activation of deep abdominal muscles and control, throughout each roll over motion.
