This exercise is designed to deepen the understanding of the fondu (plié) and its crucial role in weight transfer while en pointe. This exercise emphasises the importance of controlled, fluid movement and the foundational technique required for pointe work. It offers students the opportunity to refine their transitions, balance, and the artistic expression of port de bras in conjunction with pointe technique.

Preparation: Position students in 5th position en croix, ensuring they have a correct understanding of the starting stance to promote balance and alignment.

Steps:

1. Have students begin with temps lié en avant, transitioning into port de bras into 4th position, focusing on smooth weight transfer and arm coordination.

2. Guide students through temps lié upstage de côté, transitioning into an open arabesque, emphasising the importance of maintaining balance and poise.

3.Have students repeat the sequence on the alternate side, ensuring even development and understanding.

4. Instruct students to perform the temps lié en avant again, reinforcing the technique and fluidity of movement.

5. Have students incorporate couru en arrière, transitioning into port de bras into 5th position, focusing on the precision of footwork and elegance of arm movements.

6. Challenge students with couru en tournant, emphasising the control and coordination required for turning movements.

7. Have students conclude with a controlled lowering through the feet, focusing on the smooth transition from pointe to flat.

Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining correct alignment and technique throughout each movement, especially during the fondu (plié) to ensure safe and effective weight transfer.
