This exercise focuses on refining cambré and port de bras while maintaining proper pelvic alignment. This exercise enhances the fluidity and grace of upper body movements, crucial in ballet.


Preparation: Have students sit close to the fit ball, leaning against a wall with feet hip-width apart and flat on the floor. Encourage elongation of the toes. On the introduction they prepare their port de bras through first to second position.



Steps:

1. Guide students through a forward body movement over the legs with relaxed neck. Teach port de bras from the first position, transitioning through fifth position as the body recovers.

2. Encourage students to focus on opening the upper body through the sternum into a cambré over the fit ball, ending in an open fifth position. Recover and repeat on the alternate side with the head turning to the left.

3. Introduce circular port de bras, rolling the upper body over the ball into arabesque épaulement. Recover with a breath.

4. Repeat the circular port de bras and arabesque épaulement on the alternate side.

5. Repeat the combination from the beginning with the legs externally rotated to their natural turnout.



Focus: Emphasise correct shoulder girdle alignment and spacing of the shoulder blades for freedom in the arm and neck movements.
