This exercise is crafted to enhance dancers' capabilities for greater elevation and speed, particularly vital as they progress towards more demanding allegro work. It focuses on dynamic stretching to improve the range of motion and power, especially beneficial for executing explosive actions such as high kicks and grand battements. This exercise is recommended towards the class end, following adequate warm-up and preparation.


Preparation: Secure the resistance band around the student's foot, crossing below and above the knee, ensuring firm placement for controlled movement.


Steps:

1. Have wrap around one foot, stepping over the band with both ends over the right shoulder for stability.

2. Instruct students to dégagé derrière with the left leg, using the left hand for support on the barre. Cue a tossed grand battement derrière, focusing on controlled lowering with resistance.

3.Have students repeat the movement, accentuating the grand battement three times on the third count, ensuring the student maintains balance and does not shift their weight onto their heels.

4. Ensure the exercise is performed with both legs for balanced development.


Focus: Emphasise maintaining balance and avoiding pulling away from the barre, ensuring weight distribution remains forward.
