This exercise is devised to conclude the PBT class, focusing on safely enhancing flexibility and turnout after muscles are thoroughly warmed. It incorporates the fusion ball to not only assist in stability for the supporting leg but also to provide valuable feedback for correct alignment. This exercise is particularly beneficial for students with knee hyperextension, emphasising the importance of balanced training in both parallel and externally rotated positions to promote hip health and longevity in dance.
Preparation: Ensure each student has a ¾ inflated fusion ball, placed under the supporting calf muscle. This aids in understanding the nuances of hyperextension management, as seen in the tutorial footage.
Steps:
1. Students start lying supine with the fusion ball under the supporting leg, starting with both legs in parallel.
2. Guide students to lift the right leg, maintaining parallel alignment before transitioning through external rotation and back to parallel.
3.Instruct a slow developpé devant in parallel, moving through external rotation and returning to parallel.
4. Move the right leg to à la seconde in external rotation, then internally rotate and return to external rotation.
5. Bring the leg back to devant, externally rotated, emphasising adductor engagement.
6. Return the right leg to parallel, perform an enveloppé, and reset to the starting position.
7. Repeat the entire sequence with the left leg.
Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining stable hip alignment and using the fusion ball for feedback on supporting leg stability.
