This exercise targets the obliques while also promoting rotation in the upper back. Additionally, students will finish with a deep hamstring stretch, enhancing flexibility in the legs.


Starting position:

Instruct students to sit up tall and place the long resistance band around the bottom of their feet. Ensure they hold the band in each hand with a firm but relaxed grip.


Steps:

1. The student will begin by sitting up tall bring the right hand in towards the waist, bending the right knee while rotating the spine and leaning slightly back

2. They will repeat to the left side

3. Have the student do this 4 times

4. They will then fold forward over legs, extending arms out to the sides

5. They will then sit up tall

6. Repeat folding forward

7. They will repeat the whole exercise from the beginning

8. Have the student roll down, extending both legs up to the ceiling

9. They will then lower left leg down, pulling the leg towards the body

10. Switch legs

11. Have the student gently pulling leg towards their body to finish


Focus:

Make sure the student works through the obliques and the rotation into the thoracic. Safe stretching is important so make sure they don’t over stretch.
