This exercise aims to help students enhance their comprehension of weight distribution in a balancé de côte. The main focus is on achieving smooth and controlled movements without kicking out the front foot. To facilitate this, we utilise bands and the Backalast Jacket to provide tactile feedback.
Preparation: Begin by placing the band over the thigh while seated and wrap the band en dehors once around each leg.
Steps:
1. Starting with a step into a classical pose, with the left foot positioned devant.
2. They execute three balancé de côte movements, smoothly transitioning their port de bras from 3rd to 2nd position, while keeping their eye line aligned with the direction of movement.
3. Dégagé into 2nd position en fondu (plié), coordinating arm movements with foot presentation and ensuring that weight remains over the supporting leg.
4. Repeat these steps starting with the opposite side.
5. Once they are confident with the first section, introduce épaulement.
Focus: Place emphasis on maintaining fluid and continuous motion without any sudden movements of the front foot.
