Banda de resitencia Media

This technical yet explorative new exercise focusses on challenging the centre of weight and taking risks with the upper body whilst maintaining a neutral and stabilised pelvis. The detailed wrapping of the resistance band encourages the activation of the key muscles primarily responsible for pelvic stabilisation. Activating and connecting with these important muscles results in a correctly aligned and controlled pelvis, which in turn allows the dancer to take greater risks with their movement. Specifically focusing on the transfer of weight, this exercise encourages students to use space, extend their movement range and find a fluidity and freedom in their upper body.

Commencing in a gentle first position encourage students to activate the deep rotators as they move through the dégagé sequence. The wrapping of the band should really assist students to feel that sense of external rotation. Encourage a release in the upper body as the dancer moves through the transfer of weight movement. Although freedom of movement is encouraged, it is still vital the student remains stabilised in the pelvis and activated through the abdominals.

On the final section encourage a deep externally rotated plié and stable pelvis whilst the upper body rotates, twists and contracts (isolating the upper body from the lower). Be sure to play with suspension and release to enhance the quality of movement.
