This beautifully fluid exercise was designed to enhance student’s quality of movement. It is a beneficial exercise to incorporate into your PCT floor work series and uses the theraband to accentuate an elasticity and fluidity of movement. It also really forces students to engage their inside thighs and activate their abdominals.

Ensure students are nice and relaxed on the floor to begin the exercise. Giving weight into the floor and releasing any tension will ensure this exercise is executed with an ease and minimal effort or force. It is important throughout this exercise that the movement is initiated from the abdominals allowing the movement to spill out into the limbs.

Encourage students to find a gentle quality of movement through the upper body, articulating through the arms as they open up and expanding through the side torso finding space between the ribs.

As the movement progresses ensure students are maximising the resistance and elasticity felt by the taut band. This can be achieved by expanding and finding length through the legs, releasing any tension in the hip flexors. The elasticity of a dancer’s muscles allows the legs to extend fully, especially when a wide range of motion is available.

Once the exercise has been executed over time and the quality of movement has been established, remove the theraband to feel that added sense of clarity of movement and elasticity through the lower limbs.
