Pointe Class 1, guided by Stephanie Petersen, is the first session in our advanced pointe series that is designed to develop strength, control, and artistry
This class follows a clear structure. Beginning at the barre, we will focus on increasing foot strength and building awareness of rotation and alignment, particularly in the supporting leg. In this session, you’ll also be using a resistance band to enhance proprioception and deepen engagement.
From there, we move into the centre, where you’ll work through dynamic combinations such as échappés, relevés, and pirouettes with an emphasis on weight transfer, clarity of movement, and maintaining alignment throughout transitions.
We’ll finish with a short cool down to help the body release and the mind process.
This session helps dancers connect with their entire body during pointe work. From pelvic alignment and rotation to the use of arms and breath, nothing is isolated. Dancing en pointe is not just about the feet — it’s about how the whole body works together.
We strongly encourage pairing these pointe sessions with regular ballet technique and PBT training, to strengthen deep support systems and reduce the risk of injury while developing more expressive, confident movement.
Tips
Reinforce alignment and control from the very first rise at the barre—these habits directly affect centre stability.
In pirouettes, highlight clear weight transfer and vertical alignment, especially in preparation and landing.
Encourage students to maintain awareness of the whole-body organisation, not just the feet.
Using the band at the barre is a great opportunity to increase proprioceptive feedback.
