Welcome to Mobility Class 2 for the junior division, guided by Melissa McCabe. This class is one of a series of classes designed to increase dancers’ flexibility in a safe and controlled manner. Dancers will work with the resistance band to release tension in their back and hip flexors while deepening their awareness of correct form and alignment.
A key exercise in this class is Weight Placement Check. Here, dancers will use the Fusion Ball to bring awareness to the alignment of their spine and pelvis when moving forwards and backwards.. In Loop Stretch Flow, dancers will work again with the band to gently release tension along the lateral and medial aspects of the leg. This exercise includes sciatic and peroneal nerve flossing and stretching which is crucial for preventing nerve entrapment and related movement restrictions.
We will end the class with Release and Stretch, using the Fusion Ball to release any tension in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
Tips:
For effective stretching, encourage dancers not to rush – listen to the music to guide the movement.
Remind dancers to keep their shoulders relaxed when pulling on the band — the band should not create tension in other areas!
Promote the use of the breath to aid in releasing tension and deepening the stretch.
