Mobility Class 2 – Sub-Junior, guided by Melissa McCabe, continues the safe and progressive flexibility work introduced in Class 1. The session begins with a dynamic warm-up Zip Freeze Stretch to fully prepare the body for mindful movement before moving on to more focused technique exercises like Foundation Wing Control. This exercise is designed to bring awareness to the placement of the scapula, supporting students in developing a strong and expressive back for port de bras.
This class helps young dancers understand what it means to stretch safely, focusing on alignment, breath, and working within their unique range of motion. It’s an ideal follow-up to Mobility Class 1, reinforcing established key concepts while introducing new movement patterns.
Tips
Use Half Butterflies to introduce the idea of controlled turnout.
Encourage consistent breath work during all stretches.
Reinforce the habit of working actively to control the movement rather than passively collapsing into positions.
