Focus Warm-up 2: Turnout & Alignment, led by Coni Belgareto, is designed to strengthen the key muscle groups involved in safe, functional turnout while reinforcing correct alignment and posture. The session incorporates resistance tools like the band, mini loop, and exercise ball to promote proprioception and refine technique in young dancers.
This class targets the adductors, obliques, and deep rotators, laying the groundwork for consistent turnout and leg placement. Students also develop coordination between upper and lower body, particularly through transitions in battement glissé and dynamic shifting of weight in Sliding Gliding Legs.
Tips:
Emphasise turnout initiation from the hip joint, avoiding external rotation from the feet or knees.
During Control with Band, encourage students to maintain stability through the pelvis and length through the spine.
In Foundation Battement Glissé, monitor for hip hiking or pronation of the foot. Use the resistance band to help guide clean, controlled pathways.
