Welcome to Move & Groove 1, guided by Emily Seymour. This is the first session in a series of intense, energising, music-driven warm-ups designed to get dancers moving with purpose from the very start of their training.
This class is short but impactful, with a focus on core activation, dynamic movement, and musical responsiveness. These warm-ups are ideal for setting the tone for a full class or rehearsal, helping dancers arrive physically and mentally prepared.
One key element in this session is a targeted core exercise named Obliques with Spinal Rotation. The exercise aims to develop and strengthen the oblique muscles to support torso stability, spiral movements, and powerful transitions.
Tips
Encourage dancers to connect to the music of the class, using rhythm and phrasing to shape their movement quality.
Highlight how oblique activation supports balance, rotation, and spinal alignment in more complex phrases.
Remind dancers that power comes not from speed alone, but from coordination and control.
