Welcome to Focus Warm-Up 2 – Turnout & Alignment, guided by Jenna Roberts! This session is designed to prepare dancers for technical work, strengthening the entire body with a partiuclar focus on turnout and alignment.
The class includes targeted exercises to strengthen the deep external rotators and stabilising muscles, such as the gluteus medius, to ensure pelvic stability. Towards the end of the class, we’ll use the mini loop band to add a resistance challenge, helping dancers refine their placement and control.
By focusing on proper pelvic placement and turnout activation, this warm-up helps dancers develop a strong foundation for safe and effective rotation.
Tips
To avoid unnecessary strain, remind students that turnout begins at the hips, not the knees or feet.
Encourage core and pelvic stability—strong stabilisers like the gluteus medius support efficient turnout.
When using the mini loop band, cue dancers to move with control rather than forcing external rotation.
