This is the first class in our Pre-Pointe series, created to help dancers begin preparing safely for pointe work with clarity, and care. While pointe is often a goal for young ballet students, it must be approached methodically. Dancers should aim to strengthen their entire body—not just the feet.
This class begins with postural and spinal alignment, then moves into work on foot and ankle strength, core stability, and pelvic control. You’ll also see introductory exercises for rotation, weight transfer, and dynamic movement, giving you tools to observe how the student manages more complex coordination under load.
Tips
Emphasise the importance of alignment through the pelvis and spine before loaded exercises.
Encourage students to feel the connection between the centre and feet.
Progress is individual. Help students understand that pointe readiness is not about age or speed—it’s about physical preparation and consistency.
