This Focus Warm-up, guided by Jenna Roberts, is designed to prepare dancers for sustained adage movements, with an emphasis on devant positions. The class begins with Prime Hip Activation to gently engage and mobilise the hips, helping students establish a connection with their deep rotators.
Enveloppé Training develops alignment in devant, strengthens core engagement, and enhances the movement quality of the enveloppé. This section also reinforces pelvic stability and breath coordination to support control and fluidity necesarry for adage.
The class concludes with a more dynamic exercise, Allegro Enhancement, which develops core stability and alignment to support cleaner, more efficient jumps.
Tips
In Prime Hip Activation, guide students to use the mat as a reference for alignment—encourage them to check that their foot, knee, pelvis, shoulder and head form a straight line. This promotes clear proprioception and balanced placement.
During the flexion, cue an exhalation to help release the ribs and prevent gripping through the upper torso. Reinforce the initiation of turnout from the deep rotators rather than the hip flexors.
