Welcome to Move & Groove 2 guided by Ella Roper. In this class we will be working with control and precision to enhance dynamic movements such as batterie. Dancers will need their Fusion Ball and mat.
We will begin with the first of our animal-themed exercises: Bug with Beat. This is a core strengthening exercise that will train dancers to use their deep abdominals rather than their hip flexors to lift the legs. Remind dancers to keep their pelvis still and palms up throughout the exercise to maximise the core engagement.
This class also features the exercise TVA and Oblique Conditioning: a brilliant exercise for promoting the activation of the deep abdominal muscles and minimising rib flare. We will then move to more dynamic lower-body work, training adductor activation for batterie in the exercise, Core with Beating Action. In addition to teaching coordination and dynamics, this exercise helps dancers find the precision needed for beautiful quick footwork.
The exercise Frog Legs will conclude this class. Here, dancers will use the Fusion Ball to strengthen their adductors and deep rotators. The ball will teach the importance of controlling alignment in turnout, a principle crucial to facilitating safe and powerful jumps.
Tips
Remind dancers to keep their knees directly above the hips in tabletop.
Encourage dancers to keep their ribs soft and down — especially when they exhale.
Promote precise and controlled beats — the heels should just pass each other.
