Welcome to Move & Groove 3 with Emily Seymour. This dynamic warm-up focuses on activating and strengthening the muscles in the upper body. Dancers will work on engaging their abdominals and back to support transference of weight and improve the fluidity of their movement.
The exercises in this series give particular attention to controlled expansive movement. Beginning with Opening the Sternum, dancers will warm up the back, releasing tension in the thoracic spine while activating the abdominals using the Fusion Ball.
The upbeat portion of the class will focus on activating the posterior chain. Dancers will perform the exercise Power in Weight Placement to strengthen fast twitch muscle fibres while deepening their kinaesthetic awareness.
Tips:
Even in exercises that don’t focus on core activation, encourage dancers to engage their abdominals.
Remind dancers to keep their ribs soft while Opening their Sternum.
In Shoulder Stability, encourages dancers to lift as high as possible without crunching into their lower back.
