Welcome to Focus Class 1 – Upper Body & Port de Bras, guided by Jenna Roberts. As all of our exercises take a holistic approach, this class will incorporate all of the body but will focus specifically on the torso and port de bras.
A key aspect of this class is exploring the full range of motion in the torso whilst strengthening the supporting muscles to ensure both stability and freedom of movement. Movement patterns will include: flexion, extension, lateral bends and rotation. During the class, students will work on coordinating their port de bras, refining their movement quality, and enhancing the connection between their eyes and arms using their gaze.
This class is a great opportunity to build awareness of upper-body placement and artistry, two skills essential to becoming a well-rounded dancer.
Tips:
Encourage students to fully explore torso mobility while maintaining core engagement to support their movements.
Highlight the connection between breath and stability—reminding dancers that conscious breathing helps them maintain control and fluidity.
Guide students to coordinate their port de bras, focusing on movement initiation and refining the role of the gaze.
